Germinating seeds sounds complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. Years ago, a gardening buddy passed on a simple, low-cost method that anyone can do—no special tools, just effective results with things some may already have in their home, yet easy to find at any grocery store.
Here’s how it works: Take a clear plastic cup. Place a circular cotton facial wipe at the bottom—about 3 to 5 milliliters of clean drinking water keeps the cotton moist but not soaked. Nestle your seeds on top, then seal the cup with plastic wrap or a plastic bag, secured with a rubber band (or a hair tie) to trap moisture and warmth. Leave it alone for 3 to 7 days.
What’s so great about this method?
The clear cup lets you see the little root tail so you’ll know when its time to move to soil and give it a light. 🔥
The cotton holds moisture evenly, giving the seeds exactly what they need to wake up and start sprouting without drowning the seed. 💧
Once your seeds have sprouted, you can reuse that same cup to start your grow and also see the root growth to know when to upgrade. 🪴
This straightforward method gets you growing confidently from day one.
Or there are always other methods of germinating seeds here.
